Want Great Abs? Let's Yoga

Posted by: Foxy Frangipani in

A reminder for myself to really really start to get back into my long abandoned Yoga practice. The bulging tummy is not pretty! (Yeah but the lazy side of me didn't seem bothered at all, noooo! It is so wrong)

Sourced from Women's Health website; hopefully I get to start off with, say 15 mins each day? I want to fit into those dresses sold in Bangkok! :P

OK, lets go!

1. Warm-up: Reclining big toe hold (supta padangustasana)

- Trust me, I can do this pretty good, in bed; while snoozing lol.
Lie flat on your back, legs extended, feet flexed, and arms at your sides, palms facing down. Bend your left leg into your chest, pulling the shin with both hands.

Then grab your left big toe with your first two fingers and thumb of your left hand and lengthen the leg as much as you can while keeping both shoulders and hips on the floor.

Next, wrap your right hand around the outside of left foot, shift your hips to the left, and extend your left leg across your body, reaching for the floor. Your hip will lift, but keep both shoulders on the floor.

Reach that leg as far as your can, then turn your head and look over your left shoulder. Hold for five to seven breaths. Gently lift your leg, lower it back down to the floor, and repeat on the opposite side.

2. Boat pose (navasana), variation

- Do-able..

Tones rectus abdominis and obliques
Lie on your back with your knees bent and feet on the floor. Pressing your belly to the floor, lift your head, chest, shoulders and arms as you extend your legs.

Press the inner edges of your feet together, spread your toes, and draw the outer edges of your feet back, to stabilize your legs. Raise your left arm overhead, while twisting your torso to the left. Reach across your body to the left with your right arm.

4. Bridge pose (setu bandha sarvangasana), variation

- Okay, pretty easy. No biggie.

Tones glutes and back
Lie flat, heels hip-width apart, knees over ankles, arms alongside your body on the floor. Raise your pelvis up as you draw your tailbone toward your heels and your inner thighs toward each other.

Press arms into the floor to lift spine up, leaving your shoulders, heads and feet in contact with the floor

5. Bridge pose (setu bandha sarvangasana), variation

- Uhh, a little wobbly. After the long break.

Lift your right foot off floor with the knee bent, drawing it toward your face. Straighten the right leg in the air. With the right foot, draw small circles clockwise and counter-clockwise.

Replace your right foot next to your left one. Release your spine lowering one vertebra at time. Repeat with the other leg.

6. Belly crunch and half boat

- This is new, never thought of it...

Tones rectus abdominis and transverse abdominis
Lie down and cross your right ankle over your left knee. Wrap your hands behind the left knee and pull it toward your chest for thread the needle (aka reclining pigeon pose).

Place your hands behind your head, elbows pointing away from each other.

7. Belly crunch and half boat

- OMG, really?! (never done this, looks like hard work :S )

Keeping your right ankle over your left knee, extend your left leg. Contract your abs as your draw your upper body and left leg slightly off the ground towards the left. Your left elbow will drop towards the floor.

Switch sides, twisting your torso to the right and keeping legs the same. Go back and forth between left and right sides before switching the cross of your legs and repeating.

8. Leg climb

- Gives the hamstrings a good stretch

Tones rectus abdominis
Lying flat on your back with legs straight, bend your left leg to your chest and raise it straight into the air. Hold the back of your thigh with your left hand.

Activate your left leg, pushing forward with your thigh and pushing back with your hand. Press your grounded right leg into the floor, toes flexed.

9. Leg climb

- Sweat...

Now tighten the belly, lift the upper body, and try to climb up the leg, one hand over the other, without throwing the leg forward. It’s as if you’re climbing an imaginary ladder or rope. Climb until you’re sitting tall on the sit bones. Climb down and repeat with the other leg.

Modification: You can bend the extended leg until you’re strong and supple enough to do it with the leg straight.

10. Mermaid pose

- ........

Tones obliques
Lie on your left side, arms stretched and extended overhead together, so that your body is one straight line. Rest your head on your left arm. Lift your legs in the air, and then raise your arms and torso as high you can.

Engage your legs from the toes up and pull your stomach in. ”When you activate your quads to lift the thighs, it makes your legs lighter,” Lindsay says. Hold for five breaths. Then repeat on the other side.

11. Plank pose, variation

- Ok, one of my regulars..

Tones transverse abdominis
Start on all fours and make sure wrists are in line under shoulders. Hold your body away from the floor in plank pose, keeping your heels, butt, spine, shoulders, neck, and head in one line.

Lift your left leg off the floor, then carefully raise your right hand, reaching it straight out in front of you. Switch sides, lifting the right leg and left arm.

12. Side plank pose (vasisthasana)

- My arms are not strong enough for this :S

Tones obliques and quadtratus lumborum
Begin in plank pose. Move your right hand slightly forward of your shoulder. Then spin to the outside edge of your right foot, so that your left foot stacks on top. Lift hips, not letting them sink toward the floor.

Lift your left arm in air, making a long line with the right arm. Press right hand firmly into floor to engage triceps and upper back. Squeeze ribs inward and squeeze upper (left) ribs down while lengthening right ribs to engage the quadtratus lumborum (an important deep hip muscle that, when weak, has been linked to lower back pain.) Energize the arms and legs equally, tailbone down.

13. Revolved abdominal

- Looks easy, somehow I dread this.

Tones obliques
Lying on your back, bring your knees together to the left, hovering above the floor, and stack your ankles. Reach your arms out slightly lower than shoulder height to engage upper back. Look up toward the ceiling. Hold legs hovering and roll the right ribs toward the floor to make as much contact with the floor as possible.

I am hoping to do these at least 5 times a week.
Wish-me-luck!! :)

Price: RM49 for 2pcs (Buy 1 Free 1, yes I always buy things when they are on sale)
Scent: Metal – clinical-ish
Nett Wt: 50ml
Texture: Cream
Color: White

I had very high hope when I bought these (yep at times, I get sucked into buying with the “perfect” product write up). I was very taken aback by the smell of this cream. Reminds me of clinics eeeks, not good memories. But non offensive, quickly got used to it.

The cream itself is not too hydrating. More towards oil controlling. Hence not for daily use (for me, even for my oily combination skin). My skin does feel a little smoother upon applying this. Not too sure about evening out my complexion.. lately I'm going thru some stressful time and my skin suffers as well.. (I tend to have red patches when overwhelmed)

Unfortunately it didn’t minimize my pores hehehe. I know, I know, we can’t make pores disappear; but one can always hope and keep hoping :P
I've used up a tube, and still have another to go. Hmm maybe the second tube would give me better results? Lol.. if only I have the patience to finish it..

Boots Mediterranean Olive Bergamot and Walnut Body Scrub

Boots Says:
This gentle body scrub created from simple wholesome Mediterranean oils uses walnut shell and apricot seeds to exfoliate dead skin and leave you with soft, smooth and radiant skin. With nourishing almond oil, moisturizing pistachio oil and softening olive oil.

Foxy Frangipani Says:
Scent: Citrusy + Woody
Nett Wt: 400ml
Price: Less than THB200 (on sale)
Texture: Runny with tiny particles
Color: Lemon with brown bits

This is quite a huge tub of scrub! And I am glad I bought it (sorry luggage, I know you have suffered with all the weight I put you through). The seeds are just about the right texture for a good scrub (body, too harsh for face). Passed the deo-pits test beautifully, without causing irritation to skin.

This managed to help to prevent ingrown hair too. I use this every other day - I tend to have dry skin on my legs, sometimes it gets scaly and started peeling. With regular scrub, and top with a good lotion after that, it keeps the peeling at bay.

The scent is refreshing as well, I like the woody smell. Rinses off very easily, no greasy leftovers. Does not cause sensitivity too. I have one more use before bidding it goodbye, and I find the tub pretty good for recycling. Like, keeping my cotton pads, or storing my "bedak sejuk" (rice powder).

One of my treasure finds from Boots Bangkok :) I got it because I love the smell of rosewater. And of course, it was on sale.

It didn't sting or cause redness even when I wipe it over my eyes. 150ml finished pretty quickly if used twice a day; the cotton loved this stuff!

Left my skin smelling rather sweet, but did not linger on.

Overall it gave my skin some moisture, and with cotton pad, usually remove some traces of dirt. And skin felt silky smooth.

I must say as much as I like this, this is not a necessity for me (if only it hydrates a little more). But I wouldn't re-purchasing this if on sale again. Could do a great mid-day refresh.

The clear bottle is a good indicator of how much product is left.

Vintage 4711 - Oh So Cool!

So vintagey right? My eyes fell in love with the look of the bottle. And when I read the description, my brain fell in love with musk, jasmine (omg jasmine!) and bulgarian rose.

I think it would look good on my dresser, don't you think? ;)

Want Want Want, But Too Many Things Already!

Posted by: Foxy Frangipani in ,

Spring cleaning remains one of the most horrifying experience for me, because I am a hoarder! I don't throw things (if they look pretty / cute); and can seriously accumulate over the years. It can get really stressful.

I sat down and after much self debate; conclusion is that - I really do not have a lot of time to blog and write proper reviews. Work has always been top priority (pays for my living yo) and this alone eats up alot of my time. And, now that I'm married; one more chunk of time goes to family.

Hence, I finally decided to throw away those fancy packagings and empty jars / bottles. If I can squeeze in time to blog, bonus for me :) If not, then no point keeping them and eating up my space at home.

Heavy hearted, but I just chucked out bags of stuffs. I'm not very convinced that I could continue throwing though..

Okay, getting to my wardrobe now. At the same time, resisting the temptation for these brushes!
>.<"

I'm finding it difficult to fork out money these days! Whatever is happening to me...
